Midwifery Services

Birth World consists of Texas Licensed Midwives and qualified midwife interns who are highly experienced and capable of performing all skills necessary prenatal, birth, postpartum and newborn care for normal, healthy pregnancies.

Families requiring strict privacy can opt to have private prenatal exams in their home or block a period of time at the office to insure privacy. Your midwife at Birth World works in conjunction with concierge physicians to ensure complete privacy even when medical collaboration is necessary. We work with parents to insure excellent healthcare and strict confidentiality during two of life’s most precious events: pregnancy and birth.

Fees

The fee for midwifery care with a midwife from Birth World is usually less than the out-of-pocket costs associated with a hospital birth. The fee for midwifery care includes care during prenatal, birth, and postpartum periods. Lab fees, professional birth kit, birth tub and childbirth education classes are not included.  Lab fees are usually covered by health insurance. Cash price for labs is around $75. For Water Births, Many birth tubs are available to rent in the San Antonio area and range from $200-$300. Some women birth in garden tubs while others purchase an inflatable swimming pool for the birth.

Understanding the majority of support from the midwife occurs during labor, delivery and postpartum care, discounts, if any, will be discussed on a case by case basis for transferring care from another provider late in pregnancy.

Client agrees to deposit a non-refundable retainer of $500. Deposit is applied towards the balance. Unless other financial arrangements have been made, midwifery fees are due by the 36th week of pregnancy.

Some women that plan to give birth in a hospital find, as their due date approaches, that their birth plans will not be honored. Birth World is happy to set-up a consultation appointment to see if your situation qualifies for a transfer of care. If you would like to speak with other women that made the decision to pursue a birth on their terms by changing plans to include a midwife assisted birth, please contact us so we can put you in touch with other women for you to interview about their birth changes.

Insurance Filing Information

Clients with private health insurance are required to pay a deductible and co-pay during the course of prenatal care. Following the delivery of the baby, Birth World will file an electronic or paper claim with the insurance company. The amount of your out-of-pocket liability will be determined after a consultation with the midwife. After the insurance company pays the midwife for healthcare services, any remaining portion will be billed to the individual. Many times the member is able to negotiate an in-network exception with their insurance company to reduce their out-of-pocket payments. The billing agent will help with this process. Occasionally when a pregnant woman calls her insurance company, they will inform her that they do not pay for licensed midwives’ services. In Texas, with the exception of HMOs, all insurance companies that pay for maternity benefits will pay for a licensed midwife.
